Getting a GED

Getting a GED

What is the GED?

The GED is the equivalent of a high school diploma for people who did not finish high school. The letters "GED" stand for General Education Development or Graduate Equivalency Diploma, depending on where you live but the purpose of the GED is the same everywhere. In order to get a GED, you have to take and pass the GED test.

I work for a company that conducts legitimate market research studies. We have a project coming up in late August for people over 50 who have not yet attained their GED. Those who qualify and participate will be paid for their time. Can anyone direct me to a place (B&M or Internet) where I could locate such people?

is there a free pre test i can take online

Manana Rivera,

For clarification, you cannot get a high school diploma when you earn your G.E.D. A GED is the equal to your high school diploma.

OK,
I just realized this might be nation-wide. Even though my little browser says South Minneapolis.

These are various state providers participating in the GED-i program. (Formerlt GED-Illinois) They should be actual literacy organizations that charge nothing (to very little) to enroll. They receive Federal (and sometimes State) funding to operate.

Here are the states that are doing it.

Good luck!

Gary,
Update: The GED-i is an online GED prep program that is being piloted by the State of Minnesota in Minneapolis and St. Paul. In Minneapolis, you can find information about registration by contacting the Minneapolis ABE office at 612-668-3800.

A guy named Bill Holms teaches it. He works out of the Lehmann Center teaching Evening GED classes on the 4th floor.

»

Diva,
Where did you take the test?

If you call 668-3800, they may not be able to help you, but they can give you some ideas. Also, check on the MN state department of education web page.

Good luck.

I have taken my test and they can not seem to find my transscript for my job. So in order for me to keep my job i need this test to be done ASAP. I took the test back in 1986. Just when i had finish the test my son had gotten into some pinesol cleaner and almost died and i had to leave because the baby sitter which wasn his father was not watching him very well and i was off to the hospital. So i know my test was turned. So my job tried to verify it and they kept sending it back saying no results. Am very upset about this. Please i need help.

Diedria,
Studies have been done that show that completion of a GED usually does not create much of an economic advantage over high school dropouts. The important thing is to use a GED as a bridge toward obtaining additional training or educational opportunities. There can be a variety of ways to obtaining career training. Grants, loans, and scholarships are available from many institutions; or if you need to work while going to school, many training programs can be completed on a part-time basis.

»

Diedria,
The GED test is NOT available anywhere in the world online (2008). If you locate a site that says they will give you GED online, don't give them money and exit from the site. They are only there to take your money. GED is only available at approved testing sites. Contact one near you to find more information. Yes, you can use sites on the Internet to study. Be careful there too. Many communities offer resources to help you at minimal or no cost.

I really do need my GED to further my education and get a good job.

We all can see that you do. Just think about it. In do not let people put you down. In say to your self you can do it. Thats all you have to do. In do the work.

I think GED is for people who try there best. In 4 people who cares about there life. In know what they want to be in life. In do not just want to give up on there life. In i think its for people who do not want to drop out of school . In who want to say they walked out of skool with something to show. In 4 someone to show other people that life might be hard but you can do what EVER you want to do if you try your best.
